Description

The Permanent Load Shift-Thermal Energy Storage Program offers up to $1.5 million in incentives plus ongoing bill savings, simply for managing energy use. A customer can shift part or all of the building cooling needs to off-peak hours when electricity rates are lower. Then store the energy in a cold water or ice tank, and use it during expensive peak demand hours. Thermal Energy Storage can help a customer earn credits toward Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, and achieve energy management goals, all while helping make the grid more reliable. To enroll, the customer must be billed on a Time-of-Use (TOU) rate schedule for the duration of the monitoring period (5 years), and use a Pacific Gas and Electric SmartMeter or interval meter.
